Really quick question here, was wondering though. For doors and such, are we allowed to place a non permanent, perhaps held on by post it notes? On our doors? I have been dying to toss some on my door this year ^^;; Gadas, out |

Yeah, but it hasn't been updated since April. It'd be nice to have an update of any kind

permalinkOh boy here we go again!
Quoth the Kage:
"I'm afraid that the issue did cause problems last year. The general manager of the hotel was extremely unhappy and decreed that he does not want any signs on doors at all this year.
We are still working on negotiations."
Keywords: "any signs"
Now I can't seem to find it, but I recall Kage also saying "The manager does not want to hear a hundred iterations of 'what if...?'". Might have been someone else, but I think it was Kage. Anyway.
It hasn't been updated because very likely there has been no headway made. And it seems like there won't be either, if for nothing else than the subject started off on a very sour note with the rule being violated the first year we were there.
Some traditions must die, sorry to say it. But you know, we're in a very nice hotel whom is giving us a very decent rate on rooms. It's in a nice part of town considering (something I never heard uttered in reference to the Adam's Splat...er Adam's Mark). It is clean, it has lots of elbow room both for the convention space and within the rooms themselves, lots of places to eat nearby, a few nearby ATM's, the staff is nice, the place looks very professional...
Look. This is a seriously good thing we have going there. PLEASE do not jeopardize our relationship with the hotel. Door signs aren't worth the hassle it's going to give Kage. You're going to get the hotel pissed off at us and at Kage, Kage is going to get pissed off at those furs, and this is all going to get real ugly real quick.
Kage is just going to see this topic rise again and reach for some migrane medicine...
Really think about it. This issue isn't all that important anyway to fight for. They are DOOR SIGNS. They're not telling us that we can't walk around in fursuits (and scare the other people in the lobby and such), they're not telling us not to sell our artwork or anything, they're just asking for us to keep the hallways of their reputable establishment looking professional and clean.
They were nice enough to invite us (or tranq Kage and drag him there) to their hotel and use their convention center when we had nowhere else to go. And I'm sure they (probably) even negotiated some costs with Kage to help us out. They have gone above and beyond in accomodating us despite how the media portrays us. Let's meet them halfway. Let's NOT argue with a few simple, easy rules.
If you need to know where someone is...well if you know them already then you can get their cell phone number and/or use the message board down in the lobby that we already have. If you just want to see nice artwork, the dealer's den is in the convention center.

permalinkYou know people are gonna put door signs up anyway, 2400 people or so attended last year, there were dozoens of signs, and not all of those people post or read the messages here, so alot are unaware of the issue.

permalinkGood point. What about a flyer in the con book or something?

I personally think that an announcement directly from Kage would work MUCH better.

permalinkHe's done so to that effect, at least on this site. As for at the convention, there is really no way he can communicate with every con-goer at once. There is no system in place he can use to make an announcement in the hotel and convention center. Even if there was, furs are going to be going in and out of their rooms, and in and out of the hotel all day.
At least if it's in the con book, everyone should hopefully see it when they pick up their badge. Otherwise maybe a flyer outside the con book, just part of the package you get with a badge? Perhaps for pre-reggers, part of the TOS flyer that you get in the mail should state this rule?
I'd really like to help the con staff with this issue since I don't want any of them to get in trouble with the hotel again.

Even if we put it in the con bag, i daresay some folks would miss it. No matter where we put it, someone will fail to pay attention and cry that they were never told; it's the nature of announcements
One place where we could put an announcement where a lot of ppl would see it (with comparatively minimal tree usage)--2 signs, one each at prereg and reg, that are close enough to the desk that you have to walk past the sign to register, but far enough away that they don't get in the way of the reg folks. For that matter, i suppose we could ask nicely if the hotels would mind us erecting a smallish freestanding sign next to each of the registration desks.
Either of those may be more work than they're worth, of course. I imagine our staff are fully capable of figuring out the best use of their time, energy, and resources on this matter, and support them in whatever they decide to do or not do. As long as we've made a good faith effort to communicate the rules to attenders, i place the responsibility for following the rules in their hands/paws/claws/etc. *smiles*
