Furry Things To Do In Pittsburgh

Welcome to Pittsburgh, a Furry-Friendly City!

Pittsburgh is steeped in Furry tradition. The Wizards of FurryMuck used to live here, and much of that virtual world was created during their stay. You may even recognize some of the local names, such as Squirrel Hill. In keeping with that tradition, the City of Pittsburgh is offering several Furry-related events that will be taking place during Anthrocon. They may be of interest if you are looking for something to do outside of the convention itself:

  • The Carnegie Museum of Art presents a special exhibit, Fierce Friends -- Animals and Artists 1750-1900. At the same time, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History is featuring several special exhibits that are likewise animal-themed. Admission for both museums together is only $10 ($7 for students with ID). Both are open from 10-5 Mon-Sat., and 12-5 Sun.

Directions: Walk out of the hotel and walk down Liberty Avenue (a right turn off of 10th as you leave the hotel) about five blocks to Market Street. Turn left and look for a bus stop. Board the 61A, 61B, or 61C bus (Oakland, or Squirrel Hill, or Braddock) and be prepared with a fare of $1.75 (exact change required). The bus will take you straight to the museum in about 10-15 minutes. We recommend that you confirm with the driver that he is headed toward the Carnegie Museum before boarding just to be sure. You can take the same bus back for another $2.25.

  • The Pittsburgh CLO is performing a stage production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast at the Benedum Center just three blocks away from the Westin. Performances are June 14-16 at 8 p.m., June 17 at 2 & 8 p.m. and June 18 at 2 p.m. Tickets range from $13.50 to $41.50 depending on seating preference. To order tickets in advance, call the CLO Group Sales Department at (412) 263-2560 and mention Anthrocon to receive up to $5 off each ticket. We will also have coupons available onsite so you can receive the discount at the box office.

Directions: Walk out of the hotel and walk down Penn Avenue (a left turn off of 10th as you leave the hotel). The Benedum Center is three blocks away on the corner of 7th and Penn Ave.

  • Kennywood Amusement Park, one of the oldest parks in America, is open from 10:30 AM to 10 PM and is conveniently accessible by bus. A FunDay pass (a full day's admission) is $28.95 (or $14.95 for a "Nightrider" pass if you enter after 5 PM).
