"Furst" Fur Suit Delima...Hope You Get the Pun. =3

I am having a friend of mine build my suit and I should have it by next AnthroCon. Here's where my delima arises. I don't drive up with anyone anymore as my travel buddies have moved or fallen off the face of the Earth. So...I have to fly. I will be picking it up at AC next year so are there any tips I can get on how to avoid my suit's head being damaged when having to fly with my suit?

Any and all help is, of course, greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Furring a Balaclava hood?

I'm working on a fursuit head right now, and I've chosen to go with the balaclava hood method.

Is there a "proper" way to fur this? I've seen people use duct tape to make a pattern, and I assume that this strategy will work with this as well. Any thoughts?

Heavy Metal Bunny (cyborg costume)

hi hi all

Well I'm currently working on a cyborg bunny space pirate costume. I'm currently working on the arm.

http://www.furnation.com/BakerBunny/pics/elbow1.jpg
http://www.furnation.com/BakerBunny/pics/elbow2.jpg

It's currently unpainted as you can see but I think it's coming along nice

I'm waiting on spray paint so I've decided to switch focus to my helmet
Originally I was simply planning to use a image of my space pirate symbol on the helmet but after working on a hat I came up with an interesting Idea.

http://www.furnation.com/BakerBunny/pics/helmetcon.jpg

Which do you folks think would look better

by the way here is the hat I made

http://www.furnation.com/BakerBunny/pics/myhat.jpg

Looking for extremely long stiff fur.

I'm looking for fur that is at least 12 inches long, and has the stiffness and texture of porcupine guard hairs, not the cotton candy texture of faux fur.
Fursuit rug? Looking for a rug construction pattern like in The Fifth Element

I was watching the Fifth Element last night and came across the best looking rug. I'm not too sure, but has anyone used a decent quality/rugged faux fur for a rug?

The rug I seen was a blue alien animal thing.

http://www.angelfire.com/ny/UEO/rug.html

Portable fursuit cooling station

Hello all

well I just had an Idea. I'm not even sure what triggered this one but anyway. With the costume Idea I'm working on I could get away with some unusual parts to my suit.

since the suit is meant to be a cyborg I could get away with a large backpack unit and pass it off as a power pack/sensor array/life support unit. Inside the backpack I was thinking of having a blower fan hooked to a set of tubes that would run along my suit. Since as a cyborg these could be passed off as part of the life support system.

I was thinking that with these external hoses I could be a walking emegancy cooling system. if some one needs a quick hit I could snake one of the cooling lines into the muzzle for a few minutes of relief.

now this is all in the planning stages I'm still working on how this might all come together but what do you folks think?

If this rig works It might be something useful for fursuit escorts as well

How much would fur normally cost?

Well I decided that I am going to make my own suit. I already have the frame made (mesh) and do to some unfortunate circumstances I only have 20 maybe 40(depending on how the week goes) to spend on fur, foam, and other add ons. I have a hobby lobby like 10 minutes away from me and I was wondering if anyone knew how much fur(only enough for the head) would cost. I really don't even know how much I need.

next years costume security questions

Hi Hi all

I know it's awfully soon since the last ac but I wanted to ask about asomething I'm planning for Next years suit.

I'm planning something in line with the theme. It's a cyborg space pirate style suit. I'm planning to make one obviously mechanical arm ending in a large working pincer claw. I've already got the plans for this one in my head.

What I was wondering about would be weather or not to build interchangable hands. With the weapons policy I thought it might be best if I asked first since the secondays hands were going to be weapon hands.

I know I probably wouldn't be able to get away with a gun hand (and I've got a intersting gatling design for that.) but I was wondering if it might be allowable to have a buzz saw style hand (lightweight with the disc's possible foam or plastic with felt teeth) or a Drill hand (it would be a foam base)

Fur Suit Mask Eyes - Help Required

Hey Suiters.
I'm building my first fursuit, thanks to the wonderful website Matrices.net .. Granted there's a bit of Artistic liscence involved due to A) species difference between Matrices and Rianith XD and b) the instructions aren't 100% but more like guidelines.

The only real area I'm having problems is figuring out how to do the eyes.

I want to avoid the Periferial Vision Issue that comes with doing normal "cartoon eyes" that most fursuits have, and that Matrices.net suggests. I know I'm probably going to still need a "Handler" but I want to make eyes that aren't as Tunnel Visioned.

Snapai on Furaffinity is useing Sunglasse lenses, and I though that would be a cool idea, but my Fursona isn't a dragon, like his. It's a Jackal.

Any suggestions?

Latex Appliances

Does anyone have any experience with latex facial and hand appliances? How uncomfortable are they compared to fursuits? How hard are they to make and keep clean? Reusability? I'm fairly familiar with the process of making them, but I've never made any myself and I'm considering them as an option to making a fursuit, since I can wear normal clothes with them as opposed to hot fur. Anyone with experience and/or working knowledge who can help would be appreciated.

Fursuit Pattern Design & Material Layout question

I have a body design question for those of you that have made fursuits. When creating the pattern for your suit, do you strive to use as few and as large and continuous pieces of material as possible to minimize the number of seams? Or do you use numerous "panels" of material which create a more shaped, tailored body look?

I was wondering because in my pattern design I was initially attempting to have as few seams as possible, each leg was one piece of material that extended all the way up to include the body as well. However, this approach might be potentially wasteful as far as laying it out on the material; using more, smaller panels might make more efficient use with less leftovers. Perhaps I should make a "top" (fur shirt) and "bottoms" (fur pants) and then sew them together instead of trying to make as large a seamless piece of material from top to bottom as possible. Or not?

I know I could do either, but for best results, what do you think? Any opinions on this?

Kangaroo Claws/Paws

I've the nails done for the kangaroo, but now I need to make the rest. I'm having trouble finding pictures of the underside of kangaroo hands. Does anyone have a picture or know of a reference where I can see the full hand structure, mainly the palm area, of a kangaroo or wallaby?

I've been searching google images with no avail.

My first overlock machine! ^_^

My overlock machine sitting on my desk.
http://www.furryzone.com/insane_kangaroo/coverlock_4852.jpg

Yay! I've an overlock machine of my own!

I tried a couple machines out, first I tried the most current basic machine from pfaff which is hobbylock 4752 and was sort of displeased. The motor brr'ed when not pressing the pedal all the way, which indicated the motor was not German, or it was a less powerful motor.

I tried the 4852, the current most advanced pfaff machine without a computer, and was completely happy. The motor did not brr when trying to use the machine slowly, the machine has hemming capability, 5 thread capability instead of 4, better contruction, larger, and had a better feel when using the machine. I love this machine, it is great. Now I can make my fursuit, and possibly get in to making some of my own custom clothes.

Methods for chest building?

I'm trying to find methods to building the chest of a suit.

I've seen a few suits which have a shaped chest, how is it accomplished with most suits?

I've thought about a type of expandable slot which I can put material, but I don't know what material I could put in there which is permanently shaped. I don't want to permanently affix any material to the fur as it would be more difficult to clean a suit and have the whole thing dry.

Any ideas or examples?

Tiger tail

I just got done constructing my tiger tail. Except I got pure white fur, cause it's too hard to find good white tiger fur. So I was planning on painting the stripes on, I heard someone suggest that before. My question is, what kid of paint should I use and how should I do it so I don't make the paint clump and stick the fur together. Any particular way on how to do this? Thanks! <3
