First Time Congoers

Never been to Anthrocon before? Have questions about what to expect at the con? This forum is for you!

If you have never been to Anthrocon before

If you have never been to Anthrocon before, let me offer a bit of additional advice from a programming perspective.

You would probably want to go to the convention's opening ceremonies. It's not a long thing, but it will let you get to see the folks that run the convention. So when you see them running around over the course of the weekend...you'll know who they are.

One of the very first panels that is traditionally held at Anthrocon is "So this is your first convention?" This panel is normally hosted by Uncle Kage, 2-the Ranting Gryphon, and myself. You'll learn some of the do's and don'ts around the con. It's really pretty entertaining, but you'll get a perspective on how and why many things are set up the way they are.

Introduction

Hello everyone,
My name is Amy. I've just discovered Anthrocon.
Thanks in part to of all things, an episode of CSI that aired six to eight months ago.
I am totally blind and the only way I am able to see things is through touch.
In other words I have no choice but to touch and feel the things that exist in my environment. I don't know how those of you attending Anthrocon would approach such circumstances because everyone deals differently with such a situation. Some people don't like being touched, or like people touching their costume, others don't mind and I suppose some could go either way. I on the other hand have no choice, I have to touch the things and people around me. Not only to know where they are, but what and who they are, and what the person and or thing looks like.
How many of you out there would be comfortable with someone in my situation "seeing" your costumes and/or creatures?
Amy

Convention Center

Hello Anthrocon forums! I'm a Fur who just recently became more involved in the Fandom and am going to Anthrocon 10! This is my first Furry convention as wells as my first Anthrocon and I was wondering if there is any kind of rule against standing outside the convention center around 2 in the morning waiting for the doors to open up and maybe occasionally yelling out "WOOOOOOOOOO! ANTHROCON!"? I ask because I've been to a couple anime conventions and no one seemed to mind. But I know that different places have different rules. So I rather not have someone calling the cops on me for disturbing the peace in the middle of the night and miss the convention.

Am I able to pick my badge and registration up after the first day?

So hey guys,

This will be my first con ever and I'm just wondering something important before I send everything off. My high school graduation is on the 24th which is also the first day of the con. I'm from Canada and will evidently ahve to fly in and therefore will not be able to be there on the first day. Am I able to register and then sign-in and stuff on the 25th?

I'm raelly hoping to hear a yes ^^

This might be kind of a stupid question

But how long exactly will Anthrocon be...I dunno, occurring? Is it indefinite? I'm a service member and I don't have the time to attend, and probably won't for several years yet. I don't want to finally have the time and money to attend the con and find out that it's no longer operative. I'm not sure how to ask this question, I hope it makes sense XD

Completely new to Con

I've taken the past hour to read a bunch of the things on this site, but I'm still lost as to what really goes on at these things. I've never been to a Fur Con before, let alone that i've never been to any kind of con actually, so this is all very new to me. Sorry if I end up asking stupid or repeated question's.

I'm a very, and I mean VERY, shy person. How does one like me go about meeting new people? I have never met another fur in real life as none live near me, atleast not that I know of. I realize a lot of these forums online are full of people trolling and stuff, but it does make me think about how some people are in this world with meeting complete strangers for the first time. I'm not a very outgoing/talkitive person. This upcoming Anthrocon will actually be my first time outside of my house on my own for a few days with no parents or brother around, so you could almost say I'm a bit scared about all this. Any tips on this matter is extremely appreciated.
