First Time Congoers

Never been to Anthrocon before? Have questions about what to expect at the con? This forum is for you!

If you have never been to Anthrocon before

If you have never been to Anthrocon before, let me offer a bit of additional advice from a programming perspective.

You would probably want to go to the convention's opening ceremonies. It's not a long thing, but it will let you get to see the folks that run the convention. So when you see them running around over the course of the weekend...you'll know who they are.

One of the very first panels that is traditionally held at Anthrocon is "So this is your first convention?" This panel is normally hosted by Uncle Kage, 2-the Ranting Gryphon, and myself. You'll learn some of the do's and don'ts around the con. It's really pretty entertaining, but you'll get a perspective on how and why many things are set up the way they are.

This might be kind of a stupid question

But how long exactly will Anthrocon be...I dunno, occurring? Is it indefinite? I'm a service member and I don't have the time to attend, and probably won't for several years yet. I don't want to finally have the time and money to attend the con and find out that it's no longer operative. I'm not sure how to ask this question, I hope it makes sense XD

Completely new to Con

I've taken the past hour to read a bunch of the things on this site, but I'm still lost as to what really goes on at these things. I've never been to a Fur Con before, let alone that i've never been to any kind of con actually, so this is all very new to me. Sorry if I end up asking stupid or repeated question's.

I'm a very, and I mean VERY, shy person. How does one like me go about meeting new people? I have never met another fur in real life as none live near me, atleast not that I know of. I realize a lot of these forums online are full of people trolling and stuff, but it does make me think about how some people are in this world with meeting complete strangers for the first time. I'm not a very outgoing/talkitive person. This upcoming Anthrocon will actually be my first time outside of my house on my own for a few days with no parents or brother around, so you could almost say I'm a bit scared about all this. Any tips on this matter is extremely appreciated.

Is there a guide/program/event list?

Hiya. Well, this is going to be my first convention! Ever.
Huzzah!!

And I was curious, is there any sort of event guide out that'll say what's happening and when? So I can chart out my days.
Mainly cause I was coming in a fursuit, and I always hear about the parade, and I really wanted to join in on it.
But I don't know when it's occurying, or where.

I was hoping to get everything planned cause generally on my first time for anything, I miss something and am usually told "Well, guess you'll have to wait till next year. But now you know."
I don't wanna do that, cause a year doesn't pass by that fast.

Edit - Also, I was curious... what are badges?
I've seen custom ones... is there a guide to that too? :3

Representing From Springfield,MO

Hey everybody this is my first post on anthrocon.org and this year will hopefully be (about 84% chance) my first time attending Anthrocon! Now I'm most likely bringing 3-5 friends and I was wondering what I should do? There mostly going for the dancing and to just hang (there not furs but they wanted to come along xD), while I'll be there for everything! So how should I keep them entertained? Where are the best hangouts? Were all 16-17 years old and we want to party Dance! Lastly is there anyone heading down this year that's from our area? Thanks for all your help guys, keep rockin'!

Much Love,
Some Phat Dude Smiling

Just an intro

hello everyone! I'm Liz, but my fursona's name is Raven. You can call me by either. Sticking out tongue Raven's a thylacine; thylacines are also known as tasmanian tigers or tasmanian wolves. They'r e
carnivorous marsupials from Tasmania Australia.
What else...?
Oh yeah! I'm in the process of making my first fursuit. It's a partial fursuit and I'm around the halfway check point.
It looks a bit like my picture
<-----
As I said, It's my first. It's not fantastic. It's not a real terrible fail or anything though. As I've heard, even partials are incredibley hot and they weren't joking. If I'm cold,
I just put the head on and wait for it to work it's magic. any ideas to make it cooler are appreciated, or any general tips.

Other stuffs? I'm 12, live in PA, have a cockapoo(dog), and two pet ratties, love drawing, and hope to get to know some people on here. Dance
