Overview: Anthrocon's selected charity for 2008 is the Pittsburgh Parrot Rescue. To declare your intent to donate to the Anthrocon Charity Auction, please send an email to charity-2008(at)anthrocon.org stating your name, email address, and what you intend to donate.

Anthrocon is the world's largest convention for those fascinated with anthropomorphics, which are humanlike animal characters. We are a collection of artists, animators, writers, costumers, puppeteers, and just everyday fans who enjoy cartoon animals and their kin. This Summer we will convene at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA, from June 26-29 for workshops, panel discussions, an art exhibition and a dealer room, and much more! Membership is open to any and all who like to imagine what it would be like if animals could walk and talk as we do.

The Anthrocon 2008 Art Show is the best in furrydom, with more than 150 artists participating! As always, it features some of the finest anthropomorphic art from all corners of the globe. Original artwork is sold by written bid, with a voice auction taking place Sunday, June 29 for those pieces which receive enough written bids. Auctioneer Dr. Samuel Conway ("Uncle Kage") returns once again to provide an event that is as much entertainment as it is commerce. We will also have a separate gallery for mature artwork, inaccessible to minors, with a separate voice auction Saturday night.

Help us by Volunteering!

Anthrocon could not function without its dedicated volunteers!

Thank you for your interest in helping out with Anthrocon. We depend on our small but dedicated army of volunteers to help with the thousands of things that need to be done. While we cannot pay our volunteers for their unselfish service, we can at least try to make their efforts worthwhile. As you work, we will ask you to keep track of your hours on a form that we will give to you. If you work for ten (10) hours during the convention, we will give you a free Anthrocon 2008 T-shirt with artwork by Disney Legend Floyd Norman! If you work more than 15 hours, we will give you a complimentary membership to Anthrocon 2009 next year. You will be given a timesheet when you sign up. If you are under 18, we will need a parent's signature as well. You can find a copy of the timesheet on this page if you want to get it signed by your parents ahead of time. It is two pages; please print it front-and-back.

Bike Race Detour Information for Sunday

On Sunday, June 29, Pittsburgh will be hosting the 2008 Tour of Pennsylvania Bike Race. This will lead to major street closures between 3:30 PM and 8:30 PM that day.

The race course will take place several blocks away from the Convention Center and will affect the Omni and Doubletree Hotels during those hours. The Omni has thoughtfully provided a note that explains how to get around the street closures. We are making that note available here in Word format and in PDF format.

Only those traveling on Sunday will be affected, and only between the hours of 3:30 PM and 8:30 PM.

We are pleased to announce that the Schedule Grid, Pocket Schedule, and City Guide for Anthrocon 2008 has been finalized!

We will provide you with copies of this information when you register/pick up your badge at the convention. However, we are providing this information to you in advance so that you can see what items are being offered and begin planning your own convention itinerary.

Be aware that this schedule is subject to change. We will post any revisions or changes at the convention. Please watch the CRT monitors at the Westin for any changes, news, or updates!

Dealers Room Information

Anthrocon 2008 will be held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA. The Dealers' Room will be located in HALL C, just as it was in 2007. We are proud to to offer our dealers a greater amount of space and a greater variety of table options than can be found anywhere else, as well as the opportunity to improve their visibility by sponsoring certain events at the convention.

Please note that artists can hang their art in the Art Show until 6 PM on Friday. We recommend that you secure your seat in the Alley on Friday morning (i.e. stay for signups and choose a seat at the tables), then step away from your table for a few minutes to hang your art. We'll understand, really!

Registration

Pre-Registration

Pre-registration for our 2008 convention is closed. Memberships are still available at the door starting at 3:00 PM on Thursday, June 26, as described below.

Minors and children

Please note that we welcome attendees of all ages. People under 18 will, however, have to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, or have a signed and notarized permission form. We apologize if this is an inconvenience, but unfortunate situations in prior years have made this policy necessary.

Children under 10 attend for free, however they MUST be accompanied at all times by a parent or legal guardian. Unattended children will be remanded to hotel security.

Self Park (for guests staying at the Westin):

Parking is $10 flat fee per 24 hour period. This garage has a clearance of 7'4".

Note: If you call the hotel, they will tell you parking is $20. This is because guests of the Westin will be given a coupon that will give them a rate of $10 per night, good in the Westin parking garage only.

From April 1, 2008 to July 4, 2008, the Westin garage will be undergoing renovation. Parking will be limited and MAY NOT be available when you arrive. Please be prepared to seek alternative parking arrangements as detailed below.

Age Questions (for those under ages 18 and 21)

I am under 18 years of age. Do I need the permission of my parents to attend?

My parents do not want to let me attend by myself. Now what?

My parents don't understand what Furries are (or have gotten a bad impression). How can I explain it to them?

Can an older brother/uncle/family friend sign for me?

I have my permission form and it's all signed and notarized. Do I send it to you or do I bring it to the convention?

Can I get a hotel room on my own?

I am not yet 18, but I will be 18 before the convention. Do I have to wait until I turn 18 before I can register?

My friends all think I am weird because I am a Furry. Am I?

With the current trend among airlines for charging higher and higher fees for baggage, you may find it advantageous to ship items to the Westin or, if you are a dealer, directly to the Convention Center. Be advised, however, that there are charges at both locations to receive and handle any boxes, and that there are very specific (and very different) rules to follow for each location. Anthrocon has helped to arrange these services and done its best to negotiate reasonable rates and rules, but that is as far as we go. We take no responsibility for misdirected shipments, neither does any location offer any guarantees. It is strongly, strongly recommended that you choose a carrier that offers tracking services such as DHL, UPS, Fedex, and the like.

How does Anthrocon choose its Guest of Honor each year?

The process by which we select a Guest of Honor is similar to a papal conclave and just as mysterious. Many factors are considered -- everything from their availability to budgetary concerns. There are literally dozens of people that we would like to consider in any given year, however we can only choose two or three. We hope that no one views it as a slight if we do not select a particular person. It is almost always a matter of "not quite right for this year".
