So the moment that many have waited for is here. The schedule for Anthrocon 2017 is live. We thought we would give ourselves a bit of a soft launch by announcing it here. We are once again using Sched to help make things easier.

The hours for the Art Show, Artist Alley, Registration, and the Dealer's Room have been adeded.

https://anthrocon2017.sched.org

So just a few things!

If you see anything wrong let us know. BUT we need all these changes emailed to that way we can track them. Private messages, IM, Tweets, Direct Messages are not the proper way to submit chaing requests. If your profile is Sched is not linked to the event you're hosting let us know via email as well. We can merge the profiles and get it squared away.

Thank you for your patience and see you at the convention!

Ashe

Is there no Masquerade scheduled for this year?

Looks like it was either replaced by, or renamed to, "Anthrocon Tonight" (no other info):
https://anthrocon2017.sched.com/event/AsOL/anthrocon-tonight

I also assume "Kage and Alkali" is the new name for Uncle Kage's Story Hour:

You are correct. The Masquerade is getting a bit of a re-brand and a facelift and is coming back as Anthrocon Tonight. Kage and Akali will be sharing the stage in a 2 hour comedy show this year instead of Kage's typical Story Hour.

As stated in the edited header post, it will work in the Sched app.  It hasn't been possible in the past to create true Apple/Android apps because there was no one on Anthrocon's staff who could create it.  From statements made elsewhere, there's a chance that there may be a true app after this year.

This year we are sticking with Sched. We do not have a native app for this year.

Happy that worked out for you! Also give the Your Sched option a try! By clicked to the left of panel tabs, you'll save that panel to your own calendar.  You can even get reminders for when your panel will be coming up.

Mine is full of all the Guest of Honor's panels! I'm also his liaison for the convention, so... [insert shameless plug for our GoH here] Eye-wink

Quick question, I submitted a panal but is is not on the sched but I also did not recieve a notice of rejection for the panel either, does this mean the panel was not approved or is just maybe not on the schedule yet ? The panal is "from amazon to anthrocon"

While I can't speculate on the reason you were never contacted, at this time the schedule is considered complete and there will be no changes(prior to absolute-last-minute changes at the convention when necessary due to a panelist not showing up or such).

Please feel free to apply again next year.

Something the programming staff needs to work on. I submitted a panel myself a few years back and never got a response. That's a fast way to discourage any future submissions. Even a pre-composed letter would do, as opposed to hearing nothing at all.

In previous years we were using a different system. That system was found to have a habitnof eating things so we have to changed to a new one and are still working out the bugs. I am sorry you did not rlget responses in previous years. We are working to improve the process.

One thing we submitters may want to consider—and this goes for any con, really—is the old Hollywood cliché “don’t call us, we’ll call you.” We submit our pitches, and if they merit further consideration we’ll hear about it. If we hear nothing, that just gives us time to improve them where we can for the next con we want to pitch to.

Come to think of it, I’d certainly go catch a how-to-pitch-a-panel panel. Next year, perhaps?

I was honestly surprised to see a number of the usual video game tournaments absent this year.  But then again, it's easy to assume that the same person's going to show up every year and run them, and that's not always the case.

Lots of other fun stuff seems to have taken its place though!

Yes.  All of my yes!

Your gaming lineup from last year - Tetris, the Kirby minigames, Mario Maker (sadly missed because of fursuit parade last year) - pretty much trumps any other plans I have at AC, barring the Fursuit Parade.  The only time I ever think I missed Pokemon Puzzle League / Tetris Attack from you was because of a fursuit parade conflict.  If you put your Tetris Attack tournament up against Kage's Story Hour, I'd be missing Story Hour.

Unfortunately, Anthrocon is getting too expensive to justify running a bunch of events AND paying at least $400 to work all weekend/bring a large amount of personal belongings for attendees to use.  AC doesn't offer much compared to other cons I staff (meals, hotel space, covering parking fees, internet in gaming or hours past 1am, etc), so I wanted to focus on the basic work and make extra time for myself.

Maybe if one or more of those things change, I'll go back to running the kind of events I enjoy.

I totally understand.  You've been amazing for the con over many years with your tournaments and the like, but you've gotta do you as well.

It'll be...odd having such a wide block of time open this year.  More time for booze!

I am assuming information about the dealers den and other such items will be added at a later date as things have not been finalized?

Otherwise, I like the schedule. a lot of panels from last year (my first year) missing but a lot of awesome ones added!

It depends what you're looking for.  This schedule has never included the location of dealers or where artists works are located in the art show.  Positions in the Artists Alley vary from day to day.

The only thing normally listed for these three activities are the times: noon to 6:00 PM on Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM  on Saturday.  I believe those are the listed hours for Sunday as well, although some dealers close earlier to get on the road home.  On Sunday the Art Show shuts down at noon to accommodate the Art Auction and artist checkout.

The Dealers Room is usually not listed since it's not a movable panel.  It should be open from noon until 6:00 PM on Friday, and from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM  on Saturday and Sunday.  Some dealers leave earlier than closing time on Sunday for transportation reasons.

define 'usually' because it was listed last year. but AsheValisca took care of this answer earlier, saying it will be posted over the next couple of days.

My main concern is what time to show up for the Masquerade/Anthrocon Tonight audition. I had tried many times to contact the staff via email and PM with no success. Should I just show up anyway?

In general, the only difference is that either the subject matter or language will be more of an adult nature.

Yup, it's purely the subject matter. Nothing unseemly is con sanctioned/sponsored. Because that's;

  1. Not Family Friendly. AC tries to be Family Friendly
  2. A whooooole other topic, that they'd need a whooooole lot more permits and coverage for I'd assume. And probably would also make the con itself 18+ only

Yes. The "adult" panels are few in number and held late. I've attended the writing one a few times (it ran against the dances and video games and I wasn't interested in either), and it was not really that "adult." The subject matter was addressed, but it wasn't exceptionally smutty or lascivious. For that matter, I used to refer to my therianthropy panel inaccurately as PG-13. It wasn't "adult" or anything, but the subject matter would have bored a child to tears. So, I MEANT that anyone was welcome but it would BORE attendees under 13. Obviously, I stopped saying it was PG-13 to avoid confusion.

Arluza:
"I follow Matthew Ebel on Patreon and on youtube, and he said this last week that his performance is actually at 4pm on Saturday, NOT 12:30 as shown on Sched. It's been about a week since I heard this news, and I haven't seen it fixed yet. I wanted to make a little PSA here, and maybe if we're lucky the people behind the Sched app being updated to reflect changes see this and remember to make that change so people show up at the right time."

How hard to put a PDF copy of that somewhere? I suspect
it's easier to print that off ahead of time than it is the Sched info...

The Convention and Dining Guide usually does get posted online in PDF format (in fact, it was up by this date last year), but I'm not sure about the Pocket Program.

The Publications Department is very busy preparing for another exciting year in Pittsburgh!

It's up to Xydexx if a PDF copy of the Pocket Program goes online, and the reason one hasn't in recent years is, I suspect, because Sched eliminates the need for it. There's no real need to print one out, since there's one in the reg packet. And Sched actually has a very printer friendly view. It's not grids, but it lists everything out in order by when it happens.

It was nice to be able to print it out before I got to AC and pick which panels I wanted to attend.

I don't think Sched's print versions come close but I didn't mess with it too much.

Moot point for me anyway so I guess I won't ask again.
