Just a reminder for those of you who do not travel often, you should call your hotel to confirm your reservation.

When I called today, they saw my reservation was 2 nights less than I had booked through AC. After a little bit of phone tag, the problem was fixed, but you definately do not want to arrive to find an issue like that. 10 minutes on the phone playing phone tag is a lot better thna standing at a desk for 30 minutes the night of.

See everyone in a week!

I encountered a similar issue when I called to confirm my reservation.  While the confirmation email I'd received from the Visit Pittsburgh site had the correct dates for my stay, the hotel's system showed me arriving and leaving one day later.  Fortunately, they were able to fix it.

Also on the topic of reminders: don't forget to call your bank or credit card company to let them know you will be traveling! Unannounced large purchases (e.g. a hotel room) and transactions outside of your home area are automatic red flags for banks that can result in your card being blocked.  You don't want to be at Anthrocon without access to your money!

I have never bothered calling the hotel to confirm.

What I always do is print out my "Visit Pittsburgh" email confirmation.  And when the one-night's-stay-non-refundable-deposit shows up on my credit card statement, I make a copy of that page.  And I tuck them into the back of my daypack.

Plus, the Westin has always sent me a "Welcome back, Mr. Otter.  We are ready for your arrival." email.  Which also includes my dates of stay.  (And which, BTW, I received early this morning.)  Which I also just tucked into the back of my daypack.

Nothing beats a piece of paper to wave under someones muzzle, when things go FUBAR!  (FUBAR: "Fouled" Up Beyond All Recognition Eye-wink )

Anyone in charge of securing a room at AC who doesn't have at least one of those documets in their paws, should definatly call their hotel to confirm, and request that they send you an email as proof of confirmation.

Or if not printed, at least readily available in email.

I got in touch with the Drury last week. And got an email back saying "we have you scheduled to arrive the 29th." But a quick reply back, and it got fixed.

So if you're not a fan of using the phone, email works as well!

But still:  Nothing beats a piece of paper!

As I always say:  "Paper doesn't need batteries, and doesn't break if you drop it!"

Take this advice from a greymuzzle who has been fooling around with "personal confusers" pretty much since they were invented! laughing hard Eye-wink

Yeah, but that's an extra paper to keep track of! My phone lives on me, and I've never managed to break one. The benefits of a good case are pretty great.
