The Anthrocon 2015 Programming Schedule is Here
Here it is! The first look at the Anthrocon 2015 schedule! We're using Sched again this year:
Q: Will there be a printed schedule this year?
Yes, absolutely. Our Publications Pony Xydexx is hard at work at on it.
Q: What if I see an error in the schedule?
Do you see any typos, events at the wrong time, events without descriptions, or things that just don't make sense? Let us know either by sending us an email or in the comments below. We are publishing the schedule extra early this year so as to get as many eyes on it as possible before the schedule is printed.
At this point, the con is just over 2 months away. We'll see you there!
The sooner any typos are pointed out, the less hassle it is to fix them. I promise this is true!
Hmm. Right away I must ask. The con is the 9th-12th. Why is there 'pre-con' stuff happening on the 9th, and the Opening ceremonies happening on the 10th? Isn't that like...a day forward?
That's the way it always is. The con really kicks off on Friday. The only big thing going on Thursday is the dance.
We have some events on Thursday, Registration occurs, Dealers set up, and the like; but it's a very light programming day. Opening Ceremonies Friday mornign kick off the real 'meat' of the convention.
Why is there 'pre-con' stuff happening on the 9th, and the Opening ceremonies happening on the 10th? Isn't that like...a day forward?
TL;DR Version: We travel to Pittsburgh on that day, the teamsters set up what we need that day, dealers and artists settle in and set up their tables and artwork that day, and the rest of us register or pick up our badges, and watch all the activity and socialise and sight-see Pittsburgh on that day.
Waaaay back in the mists of Time, Furry Conventions only required the rooms and event space facilities of a single hotel. Depending upon how many people attended the con (and also stayed at the hotel for the con's run), there would often be a price break on the rental of the event space, which you need if your convention is going to be anything beyond a glorified multi-room "Room Party" (with things like a Dealers' Den, an Artists' Alley, an Art Show, meeting rooms in which to hold panels and discussions, and perhaps an additional open space to use for dances). Use (and affordability) of the event space was - and for most conventions still is - dependent on the convention being able to fill hotel rooms on the same dates that the event space was rented.
If the convention was large enough and was popular (and from the standpoint of dealers and artists, profitable) enough to attract attendees and dealers from all over the country, an extra day was required just to travel to the convention's host city, check into the hotel room, get registration badges and credentials, and set up both the Dealers' Table and hang the artwork in the Art Show.
Of course, before they could do all of this, the event rooms had to be set up first - usually by willing convention participants volunteering their labor, sometimes by staff of the hotel. This included transport, unloading, setting up (and later tearing down) of tables and drapage for the Dealers' Den, pegboard panels on large frames along with lights for the Art Show, and tables and computers set up and ready for people to register and pick up the convention badges. All of these on-site preparations take time, and can't be done the day before the convention has access to the event space, which - when we held the event in a single hotel - may have been used the day before for a Wedding Reception, or a Political Rally, or an Industrial Trade Fair, or a Class Reunion.
It is still that way today, even though AnthroCon is spread out between a huge chunk of the David L Lawrence Convention Center and almost every room of the Westin, and all of the participants - including artists, dealers and general attendees - are dispersed across several large hotels. Setup and teardown are mostly performed (quite professionally) by hotel and DLCC trade-union labor, but they cannot start until AnthroCon is granted access to the event space and delivers convention materials (art display panels, registration terminals, cash registers, forms and office materials) to the loading bays. Because that event space may have hosted an American Legion Convention on Wednesday, and might host a Home and Garden Expo (along with a symposium of Public Safety Communications Officers in association with the International Association of Chiefs of Police) starting Monday morning at 8:00am sharp, we have a fixed window which AnthroCon pays for in which to set up our fantastic world (and we can only host an Opening Ceremony once it is all set up and ready for business), - and then melt away like a late spring snow on a warm March morning, right after the closing (and vacating) of the Dealers' Den on Sunday afternoon, followed shortly thereafter by the Closing Ceremonies.
...And during the Dead Dog Party, people may already be at work setting up event space for whoever and whatever follows us (because commercial events can often afford the extra bucks to pay for the necessary labor to be done in that short interval).
The new Anthrocon 2015 Programming Schedule is here!
I'm in print! Things are going to start happening to me now.
One thing I noticed is that the Whose Lion is it Anyway? panel is listed as running from 11 to 11:30pm on Friday. I think that might be a mistake, because I know that panel usually runs two hours.
Clicking the circle on Sched.org to show one is attending Whose Lion blocks out Fri 11:00pm - SAT 11:30pm.
That is gonna be one EPIC Whose Lion if that's the case... so much to miss the parade and everything else!
The "send us an e-mail" link just leads to a page of e-mails - you might want to make it specific to whomever is to receive them to make sure they don't go to the wrong accounts.
My guess would be
We would hope that people who see a page of emails at a 'send us an email' link will select the most appropriate email.
This... ... ...usually occurs.
You have two listings for the Friday night dance (DLCC), one for 10PM and another for 11PM. Also, there's no listing for the Saturday night dance.
I think you meant to place the Friday 11PM listing in the Saturday block.
Trying to find where the Fursuit Recess & Team Games are in the Schedule for this year. Last year we had...
- Friday - Fursuit Recess Games - at Westin in Westmoreland from 2:00pm to 4:00pm
- Sunday - Fursuit Team Games - at Westin in Allegheny from 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Is this "complete" and only checking for errors or are there more, like the Fursuit Games, to be added on before it goes to print.
My panels are on Friday this year instead of Saturday and Sunday? That works, I guess. We'll have to see if it changes attendance at all.
There are no headless zone hours listed for the Westin on Sunday.
Will there be a map made so i know where these rooms are located in and where inside of the hotel and what not?
My panel, White Wolf Creations Photoshoot, is listed to be in Cambria in the Westin (Friday 4-5p). For the past few years, there's been a photography crew that takes photos of fursuit era somewhere in the DLCC. Have they moved to the Westin or is this a mistake?
Fursuit Photography will continue to be in the DLCC in room 308. If you'd like our photographers to handle the photo shoot, they'd be glad to; but if you'll need the whole hour of time I think programming would prefer you to have a separate room.
I see the Recess and Team Games are now on the Schedule, but there is a conflict with Recess Games and my Panel with Big Paw....
Talkin' Horse Sense with Big Paw & Salem Wolf --- Friday, July 10 • 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Fursuit Games - Recess --- Friday, July 10 • 1:00pm - 3:00pm
I added this note to my email sent to programming(at)anthrocon(dot)org....
Special Comments: Salem Wolf will be working with Sharky and Panda on the Fursuit Recess Games over at the Westin in the Westmoreland from just after 1:00pm to around 5:00pm, based on the Recess Games themselves having the timeslot of 2:00pm to 4:00pm, just like last year.
Is there a way to get the Recess Games moved forward to the 2:00pm to 4:00pm timeslot, like it had last year? Otherwise I'll be in the Panel with Big Paw and will not get over until the games themselves start. Our Talkin' Horse Panel will be running the same hour I also need to be helping set up the recess games.
I'll add if you can not move the Recess games to 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Friday, our second choice for the Talkin' Horse Panel timeslot was for Friday 5:00pm to 6:00pm.
Would it be better for everyone if we changed my panel to that timeslot? I think that spot may work better for Big Paw anyway....he usually wakes up at the crack-of-noon.
Noticed my disney meet up panel Villianous Portents is missing from the schedual as well
Edit: oh yes, also the time of year where i realize i can't see everything i want.. and have to make *shudder* choices on which events to go to see..
Thank You Very Nice!
Yah, I need to change my panel to Friday, 11pm at Tonic. nah not really. Everyone should have a beer in their hand anyways. Panels at Tonic on the patio. wouldn't that be just grand?
you know even though thats a joke about the Tonic panel . And the con cant condone off premise activities. If the con ever gets incredibly big.people could end up hosting semi offical con events all over downtown Pittsburgh .Just like during comic con in down town san diego ,companies hold events and panels and such during the con even though they are not part of the con.Thats many years and thousands of con attendees in the future though and maybe never likely to happen.
So much good stuff....... and yes I will be at the Whose Lion thing again and hopefully this time I won't have to be wheeled out.... That was just unpleasant for us all. (But serious kudos to Jim and Lee for signing my con book in my absence)
Well the Kage/2 Gether charity event says our charity is the National Aviary, which was from last year.
I see that this year you added a much-needed half-hour gap between the end of the art show and the start of the charity voice-auction.
Thank you, PeterCat and Uncle Kage! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Now bidders will be able to stay at the art show during close-out to defend their bids. And then scoot up to the charity auction to bid there as well.
As I said last year: "It will be good for both our charity and the artists. (The more bidders that can be present to bid on an item, the bigger the bids will get.)"
Funny thing is, that I'm really not that much of an art collector. If I leave AC with more than two or three pieces, it's been a big year for me. My roomie, on the other paw, regularly returns with a dozen or more!
Our Publications Pony Xydexx is hard at work at on it.
Actually, I can't take credit for that. For the record, the Pocket Program is actually put together by our hard-working graphic designer Sage Firefox.
>Fursuit Parade: 1:00 PM
>Tetris Attack tournament: 2:00 PM
This is going to be a tough one but damnit I will be at both!
If you're planning on being IN the parade, you can forget the Tetris Attack tournament.
To clarify on what Pheagle Adler has said if you are planning on being IN the parade you will definiitely miss a good part of the Tetris tournament. The parade line up is from 1-2. The actual parade doesn't start until 2. I see that the Tretris runs from 2-4. You'd probably be lucky if you coulld make the tournament before 3.
Hmm...there may be a way yet.
Even though the parade lineup starts at 1 and the parade itself starts at 2...the parade itself tends to run 25-30 minutes. The tournament is being held in the same building the parade will begin and end in, and there is a headless zone one floor below.
The Tetris Attack tournament had 16 participants last year, and each match took a good several minutes (as it was best 2/3)
If the TO allows for the order of matches to be shuffled around so fursuiters are the last ones to play in round 1, it would - theoretically - give suiters who made sure they were close to the front of the parade line get to the headless lounge in DLCC floor 3, unsuit, and get up to the tournament before their match in round 1. It would be tough but if there are five or six best 2/3s that occur before that it may be possible.
Time will tell and I'd have to see how many people are playing as to whether or not this will even have a chance at being possible.
I noticed a conflict on the schedule. It shows that fursuit games - recess is happening in Allegheny from 1-3 on Friday. I also see that Uncle Kage's Furry and the Media panel is listed in the Allegheny from 1:30-2:30 on Friday. Was it intentional to have both going on in the same room during the same time frame?
Think that should read the Fursuit Recess Games being in the Westmoreland at the Westin, as it has been in the past. Don't think we need all that space in the Allegheny Grand Ballroom, which BTW is on the third floor...
while the Westin "Headless Zone" in the Butler is located on the second, the same floor as the Westmoreland...
Question to Sharky and Panda here....are we going to have the Fursuit Team Games in the Allegheny Grand Ballroom in the Westin just like last year or move them back to the Lobby area outside of the Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom at the DLCC?
Need to be sure to get something set up for a Headless-Zone if they are in the Allegheny. Last year we had the Westin Staff move the panel dividers to block most of the Allegheny III leaving a space for the Fursuiter Teams to walk over to I & II. There is no way we can use the Butler Room on the Second Floor for this, having all the Fursuiters going up/down stairs or using the elevators.
Now if we are back at the DLCC, then we have the larger headless-zone to work with then.
It is impossible to schedule events so that nothing is opposite anything else. Inevitably, something is going to be scheduled at the same time as something else.
Nobody pays attention to the Furries in the Media panel anyway. Or rather, the people who should be paying attention are never there.
I think the question wasn't about the fact that they conflict in time, but that they are both in the same room at the same time.
Yea, that's what I was pointing out. That they were occurring in the same room during the same time frame. Looks like they fixed it on the schedule now.
Nobody pays attention to the Furries in the Media panel anyway. Or rather, the people who should be paying attention are never there.
most annoying how that seems to be the case....
eeeyup! That is the question. Though playing Fursuit games while Unclekage is trying to run his Panel at the same time would be interesting...
Im glad to see my Naruto Tournament is officially on the list~ I hope lots of people show up but with the dance contest finals partly running through my event im kinda worried. Still, to anyone reading this i hope to see you there no matter how many people show up. Now for my actual issue here , last year was my first time going to AC and i was lucky to see the fursuit parade on the last day but that makes me worry more about when that is for this year. i dont see it on the schedule and really am hoping i won't miss it for my tournaments. Could someone let me know when the parade is?
If you filter the schedule by the Fursuit category, it's on Saturday from 1 - 3:30 (direct link: https://anthrocon2015.sched.org/event/bd1dc6dbf920af14d4de960b5cc0fd4c#.VVDnuflVhBc). Your torunament is on Sunday, so no conflict there! ^_^
Just one more quick note on the Panel, full name is "Disney Fan meetup:Villianous Portents", think it would be eaier for folks who want to attend to know its mainly the same disney panel as last year just this year with an added theme, rather than the other way around.(Disney being the focus,., seeing the name of just villianous portents on the online schedule took me a bit of time to find it
I just realized this, the Schedule button on the sidebar still leads to the 2014 schedule. It may be a good idea to have it direct here instead.
Just looking at all the events is already getting me excited for another year!! Can't wait!!
I was wondering, all these changes.. updates, moves... in the end it will be all fixed and sorted out. Will you move it to the https://www.anthrocon.org/schedule or will it be here on this post? I know 2014 schedule is there but i would hope to see 2015 when its made. ^^ Some things still need to be updated, change, and move on this site and know its busy. So many events and time to walk from one to another.... going to be crazy.
I noticed a possible typo of the name of an event on Saturday at 3 pm, it's currently "How Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Fur" I believe it should be "How I Learned..." or perhaps "How we Learned...". Just thought I'd throw that out there ^.=.^
